As the English Department begins its OER work, there are 3 basic steps to using OER materials in your course:

Understanding OER:

  • What is OER?
  • What “counts” as an open educational resource?
  • Why is OER important for our courses?

Revising Your Syllabus:

  • Do you want to implement some OER resources?
  • Do you want to convert all of your course readings, activities, and assignments to OER?

Implementing OER Resources:

  • How do you select OER resources?
  • Where can you find OER resources?

We’ll be covering all of this in our OER professional development workshop. You’ll also be working with the course lead for your course.

The curated resources for ENA 101, ENG 101, ENG 102, ENG 103, and ENG 259 are designed to help you begin your work with OER by providing peer reviewed resources and sample annotated syllabi available for immediate modification, remixing, and adoption. Think of these resources as your starter kit. You can use the materials on this site to create your course for the fall as you become more familiar with OER.

Once you’re comfortable with OER, you can decide if you want to go further.
