Career Research Paper

Write a research essay of about 2,000 words describing your education and career goals, the basic information of the career you are interested in, the challenges that you are facing or will face as you pursue your goals, and the questions and doubts you may have. This essay should incorporate relevant information from the US Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics’ zero-cost and ad-free databases including Occupational Outlook Handbook, Occupational Employment Statistics, and CareerOneStop, your critical response to this information, and your reflections on your education and career goals and plan. You should clearly document your sources according to the MLA style.

To generate the MLA Works Cited entries and/or in-text citations for your sources, you may consult the zero-cost and ads-free citation engine ZoteroBib.

The essay will be evaluated according to the following checklist:

  • Is my introduction sufficiently enticing? Would I be able to motivate the busy career counselor to read further after reading my introduction?
  • Do my middle paragraphs have well developed topic sentences? Do I fully develop those paragraphs using the quote sandwiches?
  • Do I organize the essay well? Do the sentences flow well from one to another? Do the paragraphs flow well from one to another?
  • When I use a source, do I document it according the MLA style? Do I use in-text citations correctly? Do I have a correct “Works Cited” list?
  • Are there any grammatical errors such as run-on sentences, sentence fragments or typos or misspellings?
