Objective
It is time now to look beyond the U.S. and focus on a Global Issue that is disrupting the natural, social, cultural and political environment of a significant segment of humanity, one that is probably not taken into account by those who control the world’s resources.
Yes, now it is time to pay attention, to be inquisitive, to identify the problem, to see how it affects a whole town, city and/or country, to examine what has not been done that should have been done.
Once the problem has been defined and explained, you must present some possible solutions to the problem, by means of science and/or technology.
What to do
More precisely, in your Report, you must do the following:
- Identify the town/city and/or country of your choice and the problem: How is this problem affecting the region’s natural and social environment, its economy, thus bringing turmoil and despair to the population.
- Identify some issues of concern beyond the main problem: What are some prevalent issues in the area that may exacerbate the tension and disruption caused by the main problem you are examining? Is the area defined by social turbulence, political corruption, severe economic disparities? To which extent has the government been willing and able to address and help alleviate the main problem discussed in your Report?
- Identify the most vulnerable group: Is there any particular ethnic, racial, cultural group/community and/or social class that is being affected more than the others? How is this vulnerable group fighting back? What steps is it taking to save its community?
- Propose one or two possible solutions by means of science and/or technology: How can science and/or technology be used to address the problem? How viable are these solutions, given the country’s scientific means and/or resources? Would foreign investment/support be needed to facilitate the efficient implementation of science and technology? Is the area already getting such support?
